Akoya pearls are cultured in the Pinctada fucata martensii, also known as the Akoya oyster. This mollusk is found and farmed primarily in the open seas of Japan. Renowned for their luster, Akoya are considered the classic pearl and come in small sizes to an approx. 10 mm diameter. They are generally white or cream colored, with very bright overtone colors of rose, silver, or cream (at least in our collection!). Akoya pearls are normally very round as well, the ultimate old-time classic and are always the chic solution when it comes to pearls and especially chokers.
